Robert Rountree Reinhart Sr.

Robert Rountree Reinhart Sr., 84, of College Station, formerly of Des Plaines, Ill., passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2008. A local visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, at Hillier Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 1, at Cooney Funeral Home, located at 625 Busse Hwy., Park Ridge, Ill.

Bob was born July 30, 1924, in Chicago. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Duncan, after returning home from World War II. He was employed in various research and engineering roles by the Quaker Oats Company from 1942 until his retirement in 1983, working at the research and development facility in Barrington, Ill., after its opening in 1956.

Among his many accomplishments, for which he was awarded approximately two dozen patents, undoubtedly the most notable was Cap’n Crunch Cereal, for which he received the Fredus N. Peters Award in 1965 from the Quaker Oats Company for his leadership in directing the team of researchers responsible for its development.

A longtime resident of Des Plaines, Ill., Bob was a member of the First Congregational Church of Des Plaines.

Survivors include his two sisters, Lorraine Schmitz of Concord, Calif., and Marion Meyer of Buffalo, Mich.; three children, Robert Rountree Reinhart Jr. and wife, Beth, of Roseville, Minn., Gregory Duncan Reinhart and wife, Ruth, of College Station and Virginia Ruth “Ginger” Umstattd and husband Tom, of Austin; ten grandchildren, Andrea Reinhart Marston, Jessica Reinhart Lind, Rebecca Reinhart, Katherine Reinhart, Timothy Reinhart, Thomas Umstattd, Cynthia Umstattd, David Umstattd, William Umstattd and John Umstattd.
